Soil Testing
WHY TEST SOIL:
- To manage the mineral nutrition of the soil.
- Aid in making decisions regarding plant selection, soil preparation, and fertilization.
- To avoid over fertilization, which can stimulate excessive plant growth and increase the likelihood of some diseases.
- To help reduce pollution of our water supplies.
HOW TO TAKE A SOIL SAMPLE:
Dig a small hole, then scrape soil from the side of the hole – one stroke bottom to top. Sample 6-8 inches deep in garden soil; 2-6 inches in lawns.
