While many herbicides have been banned, they are still present in groundwater. This test detects 2,4-D; 2,4,5-TP; and 2,4,5-T. Herbicides can cause damage to the liver, cancer and harm to the immune system.

An herbicide is a chemical used to kill or control the growth of certain plants, usually weeds. It is easy for these chemicals to enter well water or community water supplies. Short-term exposure to some herbicides has resulted in vomiting, diarrhea, low blood pressure, liver or kidney injury, confusion and aggressive behavior. Longer term exposure can create toxic effects on thyroid and gonads, low blood pressure, and harm to the fetus.
