Well Chlorination Kit to Eliminate Bacteria This kit includes:

  • Easy-to-read directions
  • An USDA-approved chlorination agent
  • Free post-treatment bacteria and fungi (yeast and mold) test
  • Gloves

All of the ingredients in this chlorination agent are USDA-approved, and recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency to be used at least once a year to guarantee proper maintenance of your well. Our chlorination agent is not only more effective than the infamous method of “shocking” but is also safer. Many are misled to believe that a well system can be sanitized with household bleach or swimming pool chlorine. Neither chemical is designed for this purpose. Bleach and swimming pool chlorine do not target the contaminated area and are known to leave behind an odor as well as traces of a variety of elements, including some heavy metals. We designed this kit so our customers can eliminate bacteria on a “Do-It-Yourself” basis. Our customers always have the option to schedule a well inspection and a cleaning with an ETR representative, but making our kit D.I.Y. gives the public the freedom to chlorinate their well systems at their convenience. Easy instructions for using the ETR Laboratories kit:

  1. Remove well cap
  2. Pour chlorination agent into the well
  3. Rinse the sides of the well with a gallon of water to ensure agent is properly dispersed
  4. Put well cap back onto the well and make sure it is securely sealed
  5. After about 14 days, take a sample of your water using the post-treatment bottle included in the kit and mail back (postage included) to ETR Laboratories for a free bacteria and fungi test. No other kit on the market includes a post-treatment test. The value of this test alone is $100!

In most cases a single disinfection treatment is all it takes to restore your well to a healthy state. However some situations require more than one treatment. Wells that have been neglected for years or that have a continuous source of contamination due to structural defects may need multiple disinfections alongside structural repairs before the problem is fully resolved. If you find yourself in that situation do not guess. Contact us at ETR Laboratories and we can review your water test results with you. In many cases our comprehensive testing can reveal signs that a well is experiencing structural issues before they become a much larger and more expensive problem.

The EPA recommends sanitizing your well at least once a year to eliminate accumulated biological growth and keep your water supply protected. You should also consider disinfecting your well in any of the following situations:

  • When testing suggests that microorganisms are present.
  • Any time the well has been flooded or overrun by surface water.
  • When any work is performed on the well system, including plumbing repair, or when water filtration or treatment systems are installed, etc.
  • If work is performed on a nearby septic system, or if the septic system is within 50 feet of the well system.
  • If there is a foul odor, bad taste, or discoloration of the water.
  • During the startup of a seasonal property.
  • If there has been illness in the household.
